Greetings!

With the release of the October update, Asheron’s Call will be getting a new feature.

Cloaks!

Yes, finally the denizens of Dereth can wear cloaks of varying patterns to compliment their tailored suits. Cloaks are equipped into a new back slot on your character inventory panel. As the Arcanum has learned to weave magic into these garments, cloaks have begun dropping from creatures and appearing in chests throughout Dereth.

Cloaks appear with a small number of patterns to suit the varying tastes of the adventurers of Dereth. The Arcanum has created cloaks that automatically take the colors of the basic clothing of the person wearing it. As such when a traveler changes the color of shirts and pants the cloak changes to match it. Because of this the tailors of Dereth have learned to tailor not only cloaks, but the shirts and pants of the lands as well.

Cloaks can also have magical properties. Cloaks are created with a level. Low level loot will drop level 1’s, mid level loot will drop level 2’s and high level will drop level 3’s. There are rumors of cloaks that might have an even higher level of power, but those rumors are unconfirmed. Cloaks do not have their full power when they are created; each must be increased in power by being worn while the adventurer wearing it seeks glory and experience in Dereth. A cloak will only reach its full potential when it has been worn in battle and on quests so its magical potential can be fulfilled.

Cloaks have two properties. First, cloaks boost the level of one particular skill. Although the skill a cloak boosts varies, each cloak increases that skill by 2 points for each level it has acquired. Second, each cloak is weaved with magics that activate when the user takes damage. Although cloaks activate such magics infrequently, the more damage the user takes relative to their maximum health the more likely the magic will be activated. In addition, the higher level cloaks have a much better chance to activate these magics. The cloaks can appear with the following effects:

•    Reduce the incoming attack by 200 damage
•    Raise all of the wearer’s skills by 20 for 20 seconds
•    Casts a ring which debuffs a particular defensive skill
•    Casts an offensive ring.

It has also been reported that even Gearknights, which cannot normally wear normal clothing or armor, can drape these cloaks on themselves to adorn their armored forms and provide these magics. Although the cloaks bunch up between the back blades of the Gearknights, no integrator is required to wear these cloaks. Cloaks, when worn by Gearknights, adopt the colors of the Gearknight rather than any colors from the gears and plating they might equip.

Finally, for those travelers of Dereth who have perfected their look and are concerned a cloak might detract from their style, they can choose the option to hide the cloak they are wearing. They still gain the magical benefits, but the cloak will not show up and cover their outfit.

Is there any way I can get it off my fingers quickly without betraying my cool exterior? -Fox Mulder
